"Across the Fence" is a weekly column by Howard
Sherpe, who lives in Madison, Wisconsin. He writes about his experiences
growing up on a dairy and tobacco farm near Westby, Wisconsin; the sights,
sounds, and smells of nature; everyday life - past, present, and future;
service related issues, and his Vietnam experience as an Army medic. Hopefully
his stories will stir your memories, incite your curiosity to explore
the world around you, and examine the issues facing the world today.
